"This is what we came here to do"

That was our message a year ago, in the first annual report that The Cares Family published as a group. Reflecting then on 2020, we noted that we had lived through times of extraordinary separation and loneliness contributing to broader fragmentation. We hoped then, as we do now, that the enforced distance would be temporary. But, as 2021 and the first part of 2022 have shown, many of the features of the pandemic may be here to stay, woven into the threads of who we are and how we spend time with and perceive one another.

Now, as we reflect on 2021 and our tenth anniversary of building connection, we are proud once again to publish our annual report which contains within it stories of solace and solidarity, connection and community, imagination and impact – not just across the generations but across the various intersections of society that are represented when older and younger people come together.

In particular, we are proud of how our ‘Action | Voice | Power’ approach is now reflected in every area of our work. Because in 2021, we didn’t just connect 4,705 older and younger people (our second highest number ever); we also launched exciting new national projects to help spur a ripple of connection across the UK.

We hope you will take the time to read some of the stories in our full annual report. In the meantime, below are just some of the stats it contains. Thank you for being part of this special community.
