Building Belonging is a new podcast from The Cares Family and Onward.
The podcast showcases the work of some of Britain’s most inspirational civic innovators and tells the stories of the community institutions which they’re building to bring us together in an age of disconnection.
The Cares Family and Onward are united by a common concern for the decline of civic associations and the erosion of bonds of belonging in recent decades. But our two organisations also share a sense of hope that a new wave of initiatives which work purposefully to inspire cross-community feelings of connection, trust and togetherness are springing up in communities across the UK.
Over the course of this twelve-episode series, co-hosts Alex Smith and Will Tanner discuss the lessons which aspiring community builders can learn from the work and stories of the individuals who have brought fantastic civic organisations and spaces like Little Village, Civic Square and Good Gym to life.
Alex, Will and their guests also explore the relationship between civic innovators and those who hold political and policy power; and how government might work differently to unlock the power of communities and to create the conditions required for connecting institutions to flourish.
Building Belonging is available on Apple, Spotify and all good podcast platforms.
The Cares Family has developed this podcast with Onward because we believe in the power of local civic associations to build connection in a disconnected age.
